Hand-

stripping

Hand-stripping is a technique involving pulling out the dead outer coat by the root. This allows a new healthy coat to grow in. It is mainly used on dogs that are wirehaired such as Jack Russells, Border Terriers, Fox Terriers, and Schnauzers. However other breeds such as Cocker Spaniels, Springer Spaniels, and Setters will benefit from hand-stripping .

If not hand-stripped these breeds coat might lose its colour, crispiness and wiry texture, while going softer and thicker. If you want a classic sharp "breed look" is the way to go.
